The Makery: Crafting and Hand Tools

Guide with resources for The Makery in Rose and Carrier Libraries

Cutter / Plotter

The Rose Makery has a Graphtec Cutter/Plotter that you can use to make:

  • adhesive-backed vinyl signs and stickers
  • painting stencils
  • iron-on t-shirt vinyl

As always, materials provided by the Libraries.

Block Printing Setup

The Rose Makery has a block printing press and supplies.  The following video gives a good overview of the process, using a press very similar to ours.

Crafting Supplies

The Makery at Rose has a collection of crafting tools and supplies, including:

  • Colored Pencils
  • Markers
  • Hobby ("X-Acto") Knives
  • Hot Glue Guns
  • Adhesives including:
    • Rubber Cement
    • Cyanoacrylate ("Superglue")
    • Wood Glue
    • Painter's ("Masking") Tape
    • Gaffer's Tape
    • Duct Tape
  • Woodburning Kit

Hand and Power Tools

Both Makeries have a small collection of hand tools, including:

  • screwdrivers
  • pliers
  • hammers
  • cordless hand drills
  • rotary ("Dremel") tools
  • rulers
  • clamps
  • coping saw
  • sandpaper

The Rose Makery also has a variety of measurement tools, wrenches, and a more comprehensive collection of saws and clamps, as well as workbench space and a bench vise for doing very basic woodworking.  We also have a drill press and cordless circular saw for more intensive projects.

In order to use the circular saw or drill press, you must complete a training course on how to use each machine safely and effectively, and you must sign a form stating that you'll follow a few basic safety rules before you may do so.  This training course is currently in development.
