Managing student behavior in online or hybrid classes

If you encounter disruptive behavior during an online class, you have a number of options in Zoom outlined below.

Quick Zoom Help

Zoom has a number of options for managing participants during a meeting:

  • Mute the participant’s audio
    • Click on the Participants icon in the Zoom window
    • Locate the individual you wish to mute
    • Click on the microphone icon to mute them
    • Note: muting all participants is the quickest way to silence disruptive behavior. To do so, click on the participants icon and click Mute All
  • Disable the participant’s video
    • Click on the Participants icon in the Zoom window
    • Click on the individual participant name
    • Click more and select Stop Video
  • Remove a participant
    • Click on the Participants icon in the Zoom window
    • Click on the participant you want to remove and click more next to their name
    • Click Remove from the list
