The Makery

Create, tinker, craft, invent, and discover new skills in The Makery, a makerspace on the first floor of Rose Library.

Our services and supplies are available free-of-charge to all JMU students, faculty, and staff. Our knowledgeable and helpful staff are here to help you with academic and personal projects to foster your creativity!

Come See Us!

  • Drop by during our hours of operation to use our 3D printers, vinyl cutters, and other tools.
  • Make an appointment to use our 3D scanner, laser cutter, or embroidery machine.
  • Make an appointment to get certified to use our sewing machines or electronics workbench.
  • Sign up for a workshop.

JMU Libraries also provides equipment you can check out and use anywhere, including portable audio recorders and microphones, DSLR cameras and camcorders, tripods and lighting kits, video projectors, small PA systems, and more.

Food and Drink Policy

To ensure the safety of our equipment and patrons, food is not allowed in The Makery.  Drinks in The Makery must be in a closable container—i.e., you must be able to turn the container upside-down without spillage for it to be allowed.
