Located on the first floor of Rose and in the basement of Carrier, these makerspaces offer tools, supplies, and guidance for the JMU community to learn, tinker, craft, invent and discover.

We provide access to virtual reality systems, 3D printers, CNC routers, a laser cutter, an electronics workbench, textile arts workstations (including sewing machines and sewing and knitting supplies), an embroidery machine, a garment printer, audio/video production systems, and light handicraft supplies, and hold regular workshops on how to work with all of these resources.

All of our services and supplies are available free-of-charge to all students, faculty and staff, for both academic and personal projects.

The Makery at Carrier and Rose Libraries

Textile Tuesdays, Every Tuesday 5:30-6:30pm @ Rose

Introduction to Electronics, Every other Thursday 5:30-6:30pm @ Rose

Get hands-on experience designing and building your own circuits, programming microprocessors (like the Arduino), and troubleshooting and fixing broken electronics.

After completing this workshop you’ll be granted access to the electronics workbench during the Rose Makery’s regular hours.

Introduction to Podcasting, Every other Thursday, 5:30-6:30pm @ Carrier

In this workshop we will learn the basics of audio recording, podcast content creation, and editing. Using the Narration room and other equipment from the Makery, we will teach you everything you need to know to get started making your own podcast.

Laser Time, Mondays 2:30-3:30pm @ Carrier

Did you know you can use lasers to cut and etch wood, plastic, leather, and more?! During this workshop, you will learn about laser cutters, how to operate them safely, and how to create/convert simple project-ready files.
