The Makery: Textile Arts

Sewing, Knitting and more at the Rose Makery

The Rose Makery has a collection of tools and supplies for sewing and knitting, including:

  • (2) modern Bernina 1008 Sewing Machines
  • Bernina Serger
  • Vintage 1950 Singer Sewing Machine
  • Iron and Ironing Board
  • Tailor's Ham
  • Yarn Swift and Ball Winder
  • Various Measurement and Marking Tools (rulers, chalk, fabric pens, etc.)
  • Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mats
  • A variety of shears, scissors, and snips.
  • Thread
  • Fabric
  • Yarn
  • Snaps, Buttons, Zippers, etc.

Everyone in the JMU community is welcome and encouraged to use our textile arts facilities; however, you must complete a brief training on how to use the machine and must sign a form stating that you'll follow a few basic safety rules before you may do so.  The easiest way to receive training is by attending one of our workshops!
