Interlibrary loan is a free service only to current/active JMU students, faculty, and staff and currently does not have a phone -- refer users to email them at interlib@jmu.edu

- this service is ONLY available to current JMU students, faculty, and staff with active eID credential
- community borrowers, alumni, and retired faculty are NOT able to use this service
- requested items through ILL are physically mailed between locations and may take a couple days to arrive
- digital requests, such as articles, are delivered to the user in a PDF format and don't usually take too long
- we CANNOT renew or extend loan time for ILL items because we do not have access to the ILL system
- refer users back to the ILL portal or direct them to contact ILL staff directly at interlib@jmu.edu

| How to do interlibrary loaning: |

If someone's looking for an item we don't have in our collections, refer them to request it through our free interlibrary loan service
- direct users to the JMU Libraries website to access the ILL portal OR instruct them to Google for "jmu interlibrary loan" to get to the portal
- user will need to sign in to the ILL portal with their JMU eID username and password
- we CANNOT request items for people since the service is tied to eID credentials
- if a user has never used our ILL service before, warn them that they will need to complete a new user registration form before being able to make any requests in the system

| ILL items CANNOT be renewed by any libraries staff outside of the ILL department; users must sign in to the ILL portal using their eID username and password or email staff directly |

The below options can be offered to users trying to renew ILL items:
- they can log in to their ILL account and select the item they would like renewed from their "Checked Out to You" list and try to renew it themselves through the ILL portal
- they can contact ILL staff directly at interlib@jmu.edu
- let them know there's a chance their item may not be able to be renewed; renewals are granted at the request of wherever the item came from
