Using "Course Reading List" Feature in Canvas

Copyright Compliance

Copyright

Course Reading List is a helpful tool for generating reading lists and has been integrated with Canvas for ease of use. This Course Reading list platform easily allows faculty to find diverse items from the JMU Libraries Library Search and direct their students to these items that the Library has already purchased. However, when a copyrighted item is not available through the JMU Libraries, it is up to the instructor to determine if they can upload and share copyrighted material to their Course Reading List. Instructors should use Copyright at JMU as a guide when considering copyright in the context of teaching.

The JMU Libraries are glad to consult with faculty to provide resources to enable you to asses copyright fair use, digitize materials, and post those materials to your Canvas course pages. For additional guidance, you may contact Howard Carrier, Copyright Librarian, at carriehs@jmu.edu.
