to podcasts on business topics.

Why Listen to Podcasts?

A podcast is a "digital audio or video file or recording, usually part of a themed series, that can be downloaded from a website to a media player or computer" (Dictionary.com, n.d.).

In a recent survey, "66% of Gen Z listeners [say they] use podcasts to stay updated on the latest topics, while 61% tune in to keep abreast of social issues" (Insider Intelligence, 2023).

Podcasts' popularity with listeners age 18-24 are one reason that educators have begun using podcasts for teaching and learning. The Stanford Graduate School of Education has a list of pros and cons for using podcasts for lecture delivery, student assignments or community building (n.d.).

How Do I Cite a Podcast in APA?

Podcasts might be credible sources for some assignments. Ask your instructor if you aren't certain whether a podcast is an appropriate source.

Teaching with Podcasts

Considerations when using podcasts in your course:

  • Attach an assignment to the podcast, such as having students initiate conversations and reflect on what they heard
  • Create facilitation guides to enhance learning and comprehension of the podcast content (The Learning Professional, 2020)
  • Keep accessibility in mind, and make sure a transcript of any podcast you assign is available to read or upload to a translator tool
