JMU Libraries General Info

Rose Library Basics | Physical Address: 1251 Carrier Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22807

Hours for the 2023-2024 academic year:
- Sunday: 10am-12am
- Monday-Thursday: 7:30am-12am
- Friday: 7:30am-8pm
- Saturday: 10am-8pm
Subject areas located at Rose: G, H, J, K, L, Q, R, S, T, U, V, Z
- oversized, reference, maps, and atlases located on the second floor only
Available Services
- Printing | B&W $0.05 single sided; $0.08 double sided | COLOR $0.40 single sided; $0.78 double sided
  - students CANNOT put their own paper/supplies into public printers, this will BREAK them; refer users to print services
- Scanning & Copying | no physical copier, must use scanner and then print copies | scanner use is free; located by front desk & 24 hour lab
  - refer users to print services for large amounts of scanning/copying
- Staplers, Scissors, etc. | staplers are located directly behind the printers along with a paper cutter and scissors
- Equipment | the ONLY equipment offered for check out from our service desk are HDMI cords and USB disc drives/DVD players
- School Supplies | students in need of pens, pencils, earbuds, etc. can be referred to the school supplies vending machine located behind the stairs across from Starbucks
- Food & Drink | there is a vending machine of each located in the 24 hour space; students must swipe in with their JACard
Available Study Spaces
- IMPORTANT NOTE: due to the Carrier Library renovation group & individual study spaces are going to be TIGHT at Rose Library, so prepare yourselves and others for this! Use this map to direct people to alternative study spaces that have been identified on campus for the duration of the renovation!
  - Group Study Rooms
    - rooms on the second floor are by reservation only in 2 hour increments; users MUST have booking confirmation
    - first come, first serve rooms are available on the 3rd & 4th floors (4th floor designated quiet zone)
    - ALL group study rooms MUST have more than 1 person in them per written policy; single users WILL be asked to leave
    - the answer to any questions from faculty about having their office hours in a library group study room is NO
      - if an instructor calls and says they've booked a room and can we direct their students to them the answer is NO; this causes issues and confusion for our front desk staff and we're not anyone's receptionists
  - Individual Study
    - there are to be NO single users occupying a group study room
    - refer individual users to a first come, first serve zen booth; there are 4 located on both the 3rd and 4th floors

The Hub | The Hub IS NOT open to the public, only JMU Libraries staff at this time

Most items formerly found in Carrier Library have been relocated to The Hub for the duration of the renovation
Subject areas located at The Hub: A, B, C, D, E, F, ML, MT, N, P
- these items are still accessible, but must be requested by patrons through their online library accounts

Returning Hub/On-Site Storage Items
- items requested from The Hub do not have to be returned to The Hub, they can be returned at any other library location or book drop
- items may be returned to The Hub via mail, but we should strongly be encouraging users to return items in person/via book drop

Carrier Library is currently closed to all JMU students, faculty, staff, and local/public community members with an expected reopening time of FALL 2026

items formerly housed in Carrier Library have been relocated to both on-site and off-site storage
- these items can still be requested for circulation through users' online library accounts
- our on-site storage, The Hub, is closed to all non-JMU Libraries staff members at this time
Faculty and staff with former office space in Carrier Library have been scattered across campus
- Use the JMU Libraries Directory to find Libraries faculty and staff
- Use the general Campus Directory to find non-Libraries faculty and staff who were formerly based in Carrier Library
  - if the person someone is looking for shows up on neither of these directories just Google them; it's up to staff to update their own location changes for the duration of the renovation
