Special Collections: Manuscript Collections

Manuscript collections

The Special Collections of JMU Libraries house a growing body of several hundred manuscript collections, many of them holding primary sources that show the history of the families and businesses of the Shenandoah Valley. The majority of the personal papers donated by specific individuals associated with James Madison University are also housed with the manuscripts. All of these collections are described in finding aids, written by our archivists, that contain information about the history of the materials and their organization.
