Reading challenges offer a set of shared goals for a community of readers over a defined period (Beanstack, 2022). They help readers discover books outside their normal reading habits, by "challenging" participants to look for books that match the prompts.
As part of the Read Purple project, we invite members of the CoB community to take part in our 2024-25 Reading Challenge!
Stop by the Read Purple free book exchange outside the Hartman Hall Research Services Suite (1060-1062) to pick up a challenge worksheet. Then read a book that meets each of the six challenge categories. Once you've read all six, submit your worksheet to business librarians Valerie Linsinbigler or Elizabeth Price.
All participants who turn in a completed challenge worksheet by April 15, 2025, will be entered into a prize drawing!

Q: How will you know if I actually read the book?
A: If you list it on your sheet, we trust that you read it. No other proof is needed.
Q: What are the challenge categories for this academic year?
A: The six challenges are:
- A book that has been turned into a movie or TV series
- A book that takes you out of your comfort zone
- A book whose main character is a different gender from you
- A book set in the future
- A book that features a romantic relationship
- A book about an office or workplace
