Read Purple

This guide connects readers with novels through a free book exchange in Hartman Hall.

How to Find Nonfiction or Other Titles

The Read Purple cart is focused exclusively on providing access to novels.  If you prefer to read biographies, histories, or business books, you won't find those here. Instead, you can find those types of books in the JMU Libraries collections. Try these methods:

  • Search the Library Catalog
    • Type in a particular title or author, such as Brene Brown or Dare To Lead, to see if it's available in JMU's collection.
  • Browse the stacks in Rose Library
    • Rose Library houses the books on business subjects. Most business books are located in these call number ranges, which are shelved on the 3rd and 4th floors in Rose:
      • HB -- Economic theory
      • HC -- Economic history and conditions
      • HD --  Industries
      • HF -- Commerce
      • HG -- Finance
  • Check out our curated booklists
    • Each month, we feature 12 new books on a business topic like AI or Leadership that are available through JMU Libraries.

What If the Title I Want Isn't Available at JMU?

Your first option is to send a message to your Business Librarians and we'll look into adding it to our collections.

Your second option is to ask JMU to borrow the book from another library through a service called Interlibrary Loan. This is a free service for JMU students, faculty and staff.
