Writing for Conductors

An often neglected part of a conductor's or director's education is writing.  This is not a surprise with all the other skills a conductor must acquire in a short time.  Yet, writing program notes, reviews, and offering oral discussions of works is essential to a young director and often informs their performance choices as well.

This two-part workshop serves as an introduction to writing program notes and reviews.  Using research articles, books, reviews, program notes, and media, the director will learn the basic differences between the two types, learn the most efficient research techniques, and write a review and program notes for an appropriate work.

Excellent for both graduate and undergraduate conducting students as well as MusEd students who might wish to include a similar type of assignment within their own future teaching.
