Community Borrowers

In order to become a community borrower in the JMU Libraries system, users MUST have a public library card from Massanutten Regional Library located in downtown Harrisonburg
  • this is because we piggy back off of the MRL card number in order to create our own unique, individual community borrower accounts
  • users must also present a valid photo ID when signing up for a community borrower account
  • users can visit either Rose Library or JMU Libraries Express to sign up for a community borrower account
  • the most accessible library location for community borrowers will be Rose Library located East Campus (by Walmart)
  • short term visitor parking for Rose Library is available in the follow parking lots on east campus:
    • Lot D3 (metered parking)
    • Lot D2 (metered parking)
Community borrowers are able to do the following at JMU Libraries:
  • search, request, and check out physical items from the JMU Libraries collections
  • sign in to their online JMU Libraries account to see what items they have checked out, renew items, request items, etc.
  • physically access databases and other online resources at JMU Libraries, which MUST be done on campus
  • use any publicly available space such as first come, first serve study rooms but MUST be with a group
  • can visit the Makery and/or sign up for any free Makery workshops through their website
  • can pay for printing but MUST have cash to purchase a temporary printing card
Community borrowers CANNOT do any of the following:
  • access any JMU Libraries database from home due to needing to have required JMU credentials
  • cannot use/request through interlibrary loan due to it being a closed system requiring JMU credentials
  • reserve group study rooms due to required JMU credentials
  • access the 24 hour space/lab
