LGBTQ+ History month was first recognized in 1994, and is celebrated every October. It is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer histories, historical figures, and civil rights movements. The books on display here tell stories of LGBTQ+ movements, people, liberations, pain, creativity, and strength. LGBTQ+ History Month provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the LGBT community. It is celebrated every October to coincide with Coming Out Day, which is on October 11th. SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression) Programming is hosting and co-sponsoring events all month long to celebrate!
