You never know where your studies may take you. In the late 1990s, Stephen Hillenburg combined his interests in marine biology with cartoon animation to develop the hit show SpongeBob SquarePants at Nickelodeon. The show has created several new films, become the fifth-longest running American animated series, and even launched a Tony award-winning musical (which is on stage at JMU's Forbes Center for the Performing Arts this month)!
Check out this book display to learn more about the creation of SpongeBob SquarePants, the realities of marine life, and the additional connections between SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical and pop culture.
