International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorated each year on January 27, remembers the victims of the Nazi regime and fosters international understanding of the Holocaust with the hope of preventing future genocidal violence. Created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005, the date marks the liberation of Auschwitz.
In commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Week 2022, JMU has invited Holocaust scholar Dr. Oren Stier to offer an inaugural Holocaust Remembrance Day keynote. Dr. Stier’s work, Holocaust research by scholars at JMU, and other books and resources in this display offer an introduction to the diverse, worldwide scholarly literature in Holocaust Studies.
