Book Displays

On display Fall 2024.

Over two dozen portraits from acclaimed artist Robert Shetterly’s Americans Who Tell the Truth collection will be visiting James Madison University and Massanutten Regional Library in the Fall 2024 semester. Featuring subjects who exemplify courageous citizenship, the project focuses on “using the power of art to illuminate the ongoing struggle to realize America's democratic ideals and model the commitment to act for the common good."

The exhibit is designed to share these beautiful paintings and their stories with the university and local communities, in hope of promoting dialogue. This resource display aims to amplify the work and stories of each portrait subject.

Americans Who Tell the Truth is brought to Harrisonburg by JMU Justice Studies, in partnership with College of Arts and Letters, College of Integrated Science and EngineeringInstitute for Innovation in Health & Human Services, School of Art and Art History, JMU Libraries, Massanutten Regional Library, Furious Flower Poetry Center, and Innovation Center for Youth Justice.
